Synopsis: The daily activities of a branch of a paper company in England.
Appraisal: This TV-series blew me away. Its depiction of an assorted variety of characters in a small microcosmos achieved sublime levels of tragicomedy, and departs from the traditional low emphasis on mise-en-scene that is characteristic of TV productions. Here, it is quite the opposite. There is a rumor about certain scenes being done in dozens of takes, and honestly it shows. Seldom have I seen such richness of levels, and such perfectly orchestrated sequences as here. And everything else shines: from the smart text to the glorious performances by everyone involved. It is hard to believe that these actors are not actually the characters they are impersonating.
I think it is fair to consider the six episodes of this first season as a dramatic unit, and include it as one of my favorite films of 2001. In the eighth position.
