Detour (1945)

Synopsis: Man hitchhikes from New York to Los Angeles to meet his girlfriend.
Appraisal: This film could benefit from some improvements in its screenplay, particularly in what regards the behavior of the Vera character. No one in her right mind would behave like she does in a car on a semidesert road with a possible murderer in the car with her. I mean, wouldn't she be just a little afraid? That aside, the film has qualities and addresses a situation that is very appealing to almost everyone: the possibility of losing everything because of some dirty trick of chance. For a film this cheap, the quality of the mise-en-scene and camerawork is quite good.
Rating: 52
