Matinee (1993)

Synopsis: During the Cuban missile crisis, the preview of a horror movie in Key West, Florida is causing an impact.

Appraisal: This film benefits from an intelligent script that effectively combines the historical background with the fictional incidents, drawing a portrait of a difficult period. Without indulging in sentimentality, but on the contrary by way of a comicity that is never sarcastic or bitter, it sheds light on various aspects of the American state of mind at that time. There are many funny moments, but the honorable mention goes to that point when the leftist parents lecture their daughter about some "important subject", and the boy who is interested in her asks: "Are they for real?"
