Synopsis [spoilers]: Herman thinks Eddie should learn an instrument. By suggestion of his schoolteacher, he begins learning the trumpet. He is awful though, and Grandpa secretly concocts a potion to transform him into a good classical player. When Mr. Gateman, Herman's boss, visits them they want to show him the boy's musical skills, only Grandpa can't remember the exact formula and Eddie plays jazz, which Mr. Gateman hates. Herman is fired but Mr. Gateman is later taken by remorse and shows up to give him back his job. By that time, Grandpa's mischief has been discovered by the family, and the potion's effect on Eddie has worn out. Mr. Gateman wants to give Eddie another chance at the trumpet, and Herman takes this opportunity to get even with his boss, since Eddie is his usual unmusical self again.
