Synopsis: Herman is going back home from the store and due to a faulty semaphore is hit by a car while crossing the street. The car is totally wrecked and Herman is knocked unconscious. The woman who was driving the car is worried about him and goes off to call an ambulance; meanwhile Herman comes to and walks away from the accident scene. The woman is worried that she might have disfigured Herman, not knowing that he has always looked like that. She and her husband decide to offer them a $10,000 settlement, but when Herman reads their letter he misunderstands that they were demanding $10,000 for damages. When the woman's lawyer visits them, Lily tells him that the stipulated sum was out of the question; they raise the offer to $20,000, which makes Herman even more desperate as he thinks his debt has increased twofold. He decides to run away from his home and live off odd jobs. Lily pays the woman who hit Herman a visit and all is finally explained. Lily asks her father's help to locate Herman; using one of his inventions they manage to locate Herman in a movie studio set where he was working as an actor.
